They’re back at it again! This year’s Waynesboro Senior High School All-School Production is Matilda.
The show takes place Friday, March 10, and Saturday, March 11 at 7:00 pm and Sunday, March 12 at 2:00 pm in the Oyer Auditorium in WASHS.
Auditions were held in November with rehearsals starting the week after. The cast has been working so hard to put on such an amazing show.
Matilda is the story of an extraordinary 5-year-old girl with telekinetic powers, named Matilda (played by Nora Dickey) and how she frees her teacher, Miss Honey (played by Kaelin Bowie) and her friends from the evil headmistress, Miss Trunchbull (played by Sara Policicchio). When Matilda isn’t at her school, she’s either at home or at the library with Mrs. Phelps (played by Emma Wilson) telling a love story about “the greatest acrobat the world has ever seen” (played by Natalie Beckner) and “an escapologist that can escape from any lock” (played by Johnathan Horvath). No matter what, Matilda is constantly dealing with her sleazy father, Mr. Harry Wormwood (played by Maryanne Horne), her dancing neglectful mother, Mrs. Wormwood (played by Cassidy Flynn), and her TV-obsessed brother, Michael (played by Kailey Delauter).
Director Tim Vinson said that this was the second choice to last year’s show if they were unable to perform 9 to 5 during the 2021-2022 school year. This is Vinson’s second year working with WASHS to direct incredible musicals, and he plans to have a future in writing musicals and then directing them.
This is Claire Martin’s third year working with WASHS, her first year directing the musical revue in the 2020-2021 school year and being the producer for the past two years.
Miss Honey was the cast favorite at auditions, having 5 people audition for her. Cassidy Flynn said, “I auditioned for Miss Honey and got Mrs. Wormwood, but it ended up being a much better fit for my voice and acting style.”
Cast members of Matilda who were in 9 to 5 last year have said they feel the show is much more on track. They noted how this year, full runs had been done before tech week, but last year that was not the case.
Please come see the show! It’ll be worth your while! Tons of humor, incredible lighting, and extraordinary singing!
