The Waynesboro Area School District held the grand opening of its Early Learning Center in partnership with the First Start Partnerships for Children and Families on Friday, November 1st. The Center houses two pre-kindergarten classes, a staff daycare, a WellSpan Convenience Center, a parent classroom, and a large motorskill playroom. Included in the wing is a child development classroom for high school students. The child development classes provide students with the opportunity to experience working with young children and earning a CDA (Child Development Associate) certification. In addition, a partnership with Shippensburg University will allow high school students to earn credits toward an associate or bachelor degree.
In attendance at the grand opening was Tracy Campinini, PA Secretary of OCDEL, all three county commissioners, Mayor Starliper, Dr. Annette Searfoss, WASD Board Members, Erica Nemzek (Early Learning Coordinator), and Barb Martin (former P3/Principal). Community members and county leaders, Jesse McCree (Executive Director of the South Central Workforce Investment), WellSpan officials, and Shippensburg University officials were among the guests.
The WASD extends its thank you to everyone for attending the event. We are proud of the Center, but know that it will have a positive impact on the children and community it serves.
